How to Automate Your Zerodha Portfolio Review with AI (5-Minute Routine)

Most portfolio reviews fail for one reason: they depend on you opening a spreadsheet. This 5-minute routine runs on live Zerodha data instead. It gives you a 0–100 health score, concentration flags, a tax-loss radar and a summary you can forward. You can repeat it daily with no manual data entry.

Why spreadsheet reviews quietly fail

The old routine: export holdings to Excel once a quarter, glance at the P&L, and promise to rebalance "next month." It fails because the data is old the moment you export it. The analysis also depends on your mood. What changes behaviour is a review that is fast, live and repeatable — the kind an AI wired to your account can do in minutes.

The 5-minute routine

Step 1 — Connect once

Log in through Zerodha's own 2FA page. Your credentials never touch the tool. The MCP session dies every morning around 6 AM IST (Zerodha resets them daily). Reconnecting takes one click, and the UI tells you when it is needed instead of failing silently.

Step 2 — Read the snapshot, not the spreadsheet

The moment you connect, the dashboard computes from your live holdings: a 0–100 health score (concentration + cash buffer), top holdings by weight, day P&L, cash available, and GTT protective-exit coverage. Coverage is the number most people never track: the share of your positions that would actually be sold if prices fell sharply tomorrow.

Step 3 — Run an AI analysis with a persona

Same portfolio, different lenses. The risk manager points out concentration and margin exposure. The tax planner looks for loss-makers. The income investor checks what actually pays you. Responses are cached per persona, so switching lenses is instant and does not use AI quota.

Step 4 — Check the two radars

Tax-loss radar: your red holdings in one list, before the March deadline. Verify STCG/LTCG status in Kite itself — AI data may not reflect corporate actions on purchase dates. GTT coverage: positions without a live protective stop. This is the number that turns "I should set stop-losses" from a vague intention into a checklist.

Step 5 — Draft the fix, approve it

For any uncovered position, the agent drafts a protective GTT (OCO stop + target, or a ladder) at the live price. You review the exact levels in an approval dialog. Approve and it is placed; cancel and nothing happens. Nothing is ever placed without your explicit click.

Make it a habit, not a project

The routine gets more useful over time because history is tracked. Each day's score, value and cash position are saved, so you see a trend, not just today. A score moving from 72 to 58 over three weeks tells you what no single-day review can. Morning briefs compare against yesterday automatically.

The whole loop runs on Zerodha's official, free Kite MCP. It has read-only portfolio access, GTT-only writes, and approval on every order. Connect your account and run your first review now, or read the setup guide first.

Quick answers

Does the AI need my password? No — login and 2FA happen on Zerodha's pages; the tool holds only a read-scoped session you can revoke.
Will it trade without me knowing? No. By design, order drafting stops at an approval dialog, and only GTT conditional orders are supported at all.
What does it cost? Nothing. Kite MCP is free; bring your own free-tier AI key or use the shared one (5 messages/day).
